In spring 2008, K PACIFIC documented the installation of Beili Liu’s “Lure” exhibit at the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco. The Lure installation was based on the Chinese Legend of the Red Thread and featured 3,000 red discs suspended from the ceiling with red thread. The resulting work featured a short video “The Making of Lure” which premiered at the opening and ran in the gallery space, as well as the documentary “Red Thread.”
Nicely done. Meaningful in several levels of engagement – threads of love, cultural association, inter-generational understanding, etc. I find the one between Bei and Mr. Zhou most interesting from an intra-Chinese perspective of a Hoisan traditionalist and a conceptual northerner.
